Mother's day is just around the corner.   This got me thinking about gift ideas for my mommy dearest.  I thought I would do a follow-up post on what I did for my mom last year.   In case you missed it, you can check out the post here.

The gift I gave my mom was a booklet outlining what she had in store for herself as part of a yummy little club called... Dessert of the Month.  Every month I would make a dessert for my mom.  I really enjoyed doing this! I am happy to report that I only missed one month due to some unforeseen events that you can read about in this post should you so choose to.

Some things I liked about doing this gift were:
1. You get to give a gift every month and see the excitement in the recipient every month.
2.  You have an excuse to try out some new recipes.
3. You will most likely get to enjoy some of the delicious desserts as well.

Some things I didn't like as much:
1. You have to make something every month which can be hard if you are busy.
2. It ended up being a little pricier than what we usually spend on a Mother's Day gift.

If I did it again, I would probably do more mystery months or maybe have all the months be mystery months.  That way I can make whatever I felt like that month and wouldn't feel tied down.  Though I think it was fun for my mom to see what was coming the next month.

So to recap, Dessert of the Month is a really fun gift idea.  Mother's Day is the perfect time to do a Dessert of the Month gift because you need to do it for someone you REALLY love in order to stick with it.  This is a year long commitment we are talking about! That being said, I would totally do it again!! The pro's outweighed the con's by a long shot.  Now I just need to get some inspiration about a gift for this year!

  1. Fun blog post! I have an idea for you. What every mom wants most is YOU. Maybe you could give her something like the a coupon for an hour or two every month when she has your undivided attention. Just to sip a cup of tea on a rainy afternoon or bike together, anything that simply brings you together. When we are busy it tends to be so hard to find time just to enjoy one another, and that's what your mom probably wants more than anything else. Just an idea!
