DIY Pop Can Herb Tags

The ladies in my Relief Society wanted to make planted herb pots.  I was charged with the task of putting them together.  Here is what I came up with.  Back in December I saw this post from Positively Splendid about using soda pop cans to make metal tags.

I made a bunch of tags for Christmas and I love how they turned out.  I got my metal stamping set from Harbor Freight for only $5.00!  The pop tag is perfect to stamp into because it is such a soft, thin metal.  I decided that it would look so cute wrapped around a little herb pot.

After I stamped the letters in I went over them with a black sharpie to make them stand out and look a little more vintage.  I tied the tags around a 4 inch clay Terra cotta pot using a piece of twine.

The herb pots all turned out great during our Relief Society Meeting. Perfect way to make herb markers!

  2. Very cute! I have the stamp set from Harbor Freight--I bought it to make some stamped silverware herb markers but it was so hard to stamp. I'll give the pop cans a try!

  3. That is such a great idea! I have the letter stamps but did you use a scrapbooking punch for the shapes I wonder? I am hosting a baby shower in a woodland fairy theme and am giving tiny succulents in clay pots as favors. So when I saw this I thought it would be too cute to add them to each pot! Thanks for sharing=)

  4. I, too, want to know how you got that nice shape cut out of a pop can.

  5. That's crazy that these are recycled pop cans! The planters look so sweet with their labels. I just included them in a round-up of terra cotta planter makeovers over at Match Made on Hudson :)

  8. I love these, but I don't understand how to get the main shape either? Do you have to have a special die cutter for that?
