T-Shirt To Ruffle Dress

I thought it would be interesting to see how long my "turn around time" is. Well it took me 77 days to finish this ruffle dress. HA! How is that for speedy. I took the picture of the materials on January 4th and here we are, 77 days later.  That is why I have to plan so far in advance to get my birthday parties done. It takes me a long time to do stuff people!

On the the goods.  T-Shirt to Girls Ruffle Dress...

My daughter really liked this a certain dress that her cousin had. It is similar to this one from Old Navy but it was the older version.

The problem is that it was a little too short on my daughter for my liking.  She would grow out of it too fast.  So I improvised.

I took one of my old shirts and laid the dress on top (pardon the feet and drum stick in the picture-that is just how it goes when you craft with kids :) ).  I basically just cut out the dress and left the collar as is.

I grabbed some really cool stretchy jersey material (which washes really well might I add) and gathered long strips of it.  I sewed it directly onto my shirt starting at the bottom so that it was a little longer.  I did three strips but I probably could have stopped at 2. It was really cute and I actually like where the gathered portion ended up better with 2 strips than with 3.  Voila that is all I did.  I didn't finish the sleeves or anything. And that only took me a mere 77 days. Bravo to me.

  4. Don't you just love it, when they are at the age where they will wear what YOU want them to?
