I have to admit that this post is kind of boring. I thought I would throw it in just in case someone out there is wanting to update their light fixtures. My mother-in-law gave us some of her old gold light fixtures when we moved into our new house. I took a good 'ol can of spray paint to them and liked the difference. I wanted them to be silver but with a slightly industrial feel to them. The first one I tried I spray painted silver and then distressed it with black ink.
The second one I sprayed with two different colors of silver spray paint.
They both look worlds better than what we had before. I can't believe that we have been in our new home for almost three months now. I am sure slacking on the home decorating duties. Just yesterday I finally pulled the curtains out of the blinds (yes, you read that right) in the girls room and put up a curtain rod. I didn't want to put up the curtain rods when we first moved in because I wanted to paint first. Instead I just stuck the curtains into the top of the blinds and hung them to cover the window. You could see the tops of the curtains sticking through the blinds when you were outside looking at the window. So ghetto. Well I see no painting of the girl's room in the near future since I can't decide on a color yet so I decided that it was time to step up my game and hang those curtains. Maybe I need to start setting home decorating goals. And now I am rambling.

I am SO in the same boat as you! I can't decide on the right room darkening curtains for my boys rooms (and don't want to paint just yet either) so have blankets over their curtains - even more ghetto!
ReplyDeleteBut I LOVE your lights. They look so much nicer than the cheapies you buy now, but still so up to date. I may keep my eyes open for these types of lights in the thrift stores...
Over from TT&J. I hate brass fixtures too. Great change!
ReplyDeletethese look great!
ReplyDeleteps found yout at TT&J.
Dear fellow Cougar,
ReplyDeleteWe also have a couple of lingering brass fixtures, and the idea of transforming them into something new and not purchasing new fixtures is very appealing to me. Yours look great, but I wonder about the light diffusing; do you get good light through the glass dome, now that it's spray painted?
Also, what do you mean about putting "black ink" on the fixtures afterward? Are we talking about a marker, paint, etc.?
Thanks much!
