Rapunzel Hair Tutorial

I can't say enough about how much I love the new Disney Tangled Movie.  My little girls saw it in theaters twice and wow was it magical. For Christmas they both got their fair share of Tangled merchandise.  My oldest loves to dress up so along with her Rapunzel dress, I wanted to make some hair. I wanted it to be a headband but it was so heavy that it wouldn't stay put. I decide to try an elastic hair tie and it worked great. I thought it would be too heavy for her little head but she LOVES it and even my youngest who is as pettite as they come loves to sport it.

So here is what I did:

Edit- I went back to the store to find out the exact yarn I used from Roberts Crafts and it is the Lion Brand Yarn. It says Hometown USA on it and the color is Pittsburgh Yellow.

First, cut pieces of the yarn to about 76 inches each.  Bundle them up in the middle so that there is 38 inches on either side.  I used a piece of yarn about 4 or 5 inches to bundle them up.

Next grab a yellow hair tie and tie it on to the middle where you just bundled it.  I used the excess from the 4-5 inch piece to tie it on.

Now you can tie the hair tie to something or have someone hold it for you while you braid the yarn.  Secure it with another hair tie and your done!

I used a coupon to buy the yarn so the whole project only cost around $3.00.  Plus it holds up far better than the wigs that look like hair.  Boy to those get ratty! If your braid starts coming apart, simply braid it again.  The pictures you see now are what our braid looks like after about 3 1/2 months of use.

Here is what it looked like Christmas Day over at Grammy's house...

and now in a princess pose...

I asked Audrey what she was doing and she said a princess pose.  I guess a princess pose can double for a chicken pose too.

  1. This is such a cute idea! I have not seen Tangled, but since it recently came out to Redbox, I have been trying to get my hands on it to watch. Even without kids, I am dying to see it! :) What a great mom to make such a fun part of the costume!

I tried to do a cute yarn thing like your, but she will have NONE of that! Wants it true to the movie, darn it! I am showing her that your sweet Rapunzel says its good and mabye she will switch to a more reasonable Rapunzel hair. Thank you for sharing!
