Under The Sea Birthday Party

I thought I would put together some posts of the parties that I have done for my girls in the past.  I put the parties together before I even knew blogs existed so the pictures aren't that stellar. I am mostly posting them for people that are going to be doing parties similar and need some ideas.  Since I never knew I would be posting them on a blog,  the pictures were taken during the party and so please excuse other people in the pictures :).

First up... Under the Sea 3rd Birthday Party

At the time, my daughter's favorite Disney princess was Ariel and so I decided to do an under the sea theme with the girls dressed as mermaids and the boys as pirates.  I made the girls real seashell bras [hehe] using seashells and those chenille pipe cleaners. The fins were made out of fabric and the bottom of the fin was like a little tulle tutu skirt that I sewed onto the top fabric.  The boys had bandana's and pirate hats, a fake earring and a skull fabric sash for their waist.  After one of the activities, the kids found a treasure chest full of seashell crowns and seashell bracelets for the girls and a play knife and pirate tattoos for the boys.

There was a mermaid "grotto" made from some pink sheer curtains on a curtain rod. There was fabric seaweed hanging on entrance along with sea flowers. Inside the grotto were some blankets and pillows that the mermaids could sit on. Some white glittery paper coral hung from the ceiling above the grotto.  The boys had a pirate ship to be at. It was made from cardboard and a patterned wood paper that I bought from JoAnn's.

The we started off the party making an Ocean in a bottle. I don't have a picture of it but it didn't turn out as good as I planned anyways so I am not too sad about that.  After that activity we went and found an treasure map in an old bottle.  We followed the map, walked the plank, finally found our treasure of crowns, bracelets, swords and tattoos.  After the treasure hunt we went fishing. The kids got behind the ship and used a net to fish for fish candy bars.  When we finished fishing, each child was given a mini treasure chest with gold coins to spend at the different stores set up. One store had balloon making, one had suckers and candy to buy, and one had other little toys to purchase with their loot.

The house was decorated with a TON of real plants that my parents had.  They have big palm trees and banana plants and an assortment of other plants.  It gave a really cool tropical feel.  I used an old badminton net for the birthday sign.  I also made a cool fabric canopy using long strips of fabric attached to a large wire circle.

Hope this gives some ideas for anyone planning a mermaid, under the sea or pirate party!
